One of my readers emailed and asked me to write a VO Genesis review, because she is genuinely interested in voice-over gigs but she’s unsure if VO Genesis is a legitimate program.
On first glance, I’d say that VO Genesis is most likely a scam. It projects all the hypes and unrealistic expectations that an online scam usually does.
But as I purchased the book and dug deeper, I realized that it actually provides pretty good value. So what can you really expect from VO Genesis? Let’s find out.

VO Genesis Review
The sales page of VO Genesis consists of a lot of hypes
It’s usually a good idea to avoid any kind of online opportunities that uses headlines such as “secret to making $x,xxx per hour” or “weird way to generate $x,xxx per month”, but it seems like we have an exception today.
The sales page of VO Genesis is definitely not the most appealing one, as it consists of scammy hypes and minimal information on the actual process of making money with their system.
However, after purchasing and going through their PDF guide book, it appears that VO Genesis might be on to something.
According to voices.com, one of the leading sites on voice-over jobs and freelancing, your earnings as a voice actor range from $100 for a 15 second recording, $250 for a 30 or 60 second commercial to about $3000 per audiobook.
For example, looking at the rates of internet audio recordings, which is getting more popular nowadays due to the increase in multimedia and podcasts, a good voice actor can make as much as $100 per minute.

That is definitely a pretty good side income for a freelancer, and an experienced voice actor may even make it a full time job from home.
However, keep in mind that these are the rates for an experienced voice actor. One must have a realistic expectation from VO Genesis as a training guide book, because it won’t immediately help you generate this kind of income.
Will it really help you make this kind of money from home? What are the training and equipment you need to set up your home studio? Is it really as easy as what VO Genesis makes it sound?
What Can You Expect From VO Genesis
Voice-over is a piece of narration in a film or broadcast, not accompanied by an image of the speaker. In other words, you only record your voice instead of recording a video of yourself in the form of presentation.
VO Genesis is an educational and informational guide on voice-over in the form of a PDF guidebook, and it is surprisingly informative for the price it charges.
For someone who is totally new to this industry, I have learned a lot about the industry from VO Genesis guide.
If I am to start a freelancing gig on voice acting now, I will be well-informed and equipped with the right knowledge to tackle the following:
- Types of voice over jobs I can do, as not everyone is suited for every job
E.g.: radio and TV commercials, cartoons, telephone system recordings, podcasts, audiobooks, educational and training videos, etc. - The basic techniques and tone suited for different types of jobs
- Equipment and costs required to set up a voice booth and simple home studio for voice recording
- How to grow a home-based business to a full time job
- How to record a demo and send to your potential clients
- How to edit your voice over works
- How to develop your skills as a voice actor
- Which websites to find potential voice acting jobs, and which of them pay better rates
Will you be able to find all these information for free from the internet? Most likely you can, but VO Genesis has consolidated all the useful information into a PDF guide that is easy to read and digest.
If you look for bits and pieces of information online, you will most likely have to filter through a ton of useless and wrong information. In this respect, I do think VO Genesis provide value for someone who wants to start a voice over career.
Of course, the prerequisite for being a good voice actor lies in your command in English language.
If you are not fluent in spoken English, you may want to take up a class or two and brush up your language skills before attempting this gig.
As an Asian with a thick Chinese accent, I understand that the opportunities in this industry may not be as plenty for me as compared to someone with decent spoken English.
It may be a skill I can pick up over time, but I have found something I am good at, which is building websites and making money through affiliate marketing.
If you are not confident with your abilities as a voice actor, you may want to pursue some other ways of making money online.
In this case I highly recommend Wealthy Affiliate, which is a training platform that has helped me make a good side income to supplement my day job.
But if you are interested in pursuing voice over as a freelance gig or as a career, here’s a way to get 50% discount off the price of VO Genesis.
How to Get 50% Discount for VO Genesis
You can actually get 50% discount for VO Genesis with 2 simple steps
Even though VO Genesis is sold at $39.95, that is actually not the final price. In just 2 steps you can slash the price down to $19.95.

- Try to close the page, and you will get this window

- Click “Stay on Page” and you will be given a 50% discount, reducing the final price down to $19.95.
Should You Buy the Up-Sells of VO Genesis?
Following the initial purchase of VO Genesis, you will be presented with 3 other one time offers (also known as up-sells) that promises to accelerate your progress.
They are as follow:
- Voice Over Insider’s Guide – $37
- Multiple Streams of Income – $47
- Quick Cash Machine – $47
The one I think is worth taking a look is Voice Over Insider’s Guide, which Jenny Lewis promises to reveal some less-known information about the voice over industry.
The other 2 up-sells, multiple streams of income and quick cash machine may add some value but the sales page is too vague to determine the real value of them.
They may provide some information but I don’t think they are essential to voice over. If you want to pursue voice acting as a side gig or as a career, you should focus on just VO Genesis and Voice Over Insider’s Guide.
Skipping the other 2 up-sells will save you close to $100.
Verdict: VO Genesis is a Useful Guide, but You Should Filter Out the Hypes
VO Genesis could have reduced the negative feedback about them if they focus more on the value of its training instead of generating unneccessary and scammy hypes in their sales material.
While it provides very useful information for beginners who are interested in voice over career, the process is not as easy as VO Genesis wants you to believe.
You cannot expect to buy the training guide and make thousands of dollars from home in a short period of time.
It is just a training guide (albeit a useful one), you have to spend time and effort to practice your skills before you can get hired for gigs, and build up your portfolio before making a full time income.
Much like every other online opportunities out there, you have to set your expectations correctly. There is no magic bullet that can make you quick money from the internet, and a training is only as useful as how you make use of it.
If you decide voice acting is something that you like to pursue over, VO Genesis will be a good stepping stone in the right direction.
You can use the button below to get to the discount-enabled sales page (since not all versions of sales pages are discount-enabled) and follow the steps above to get 50% off the stated price.
Did the VO Genesis review help you make a purchase decision? If you bought the training, how’s your progress? Leave a comment below, we’d love to know!

Thank you so much for posting your review.
I do have a couple of questions though:
1. Other than a computer, is there anything else I’d need to buy in order to do this kind of work (like some kind of recording device or cassettes)?
2. How do you get paid i.e. Paypal, Direct Deposit, Check sent thru post office?
I’ve tried to find the answers to these 2 questions on the VO Genesis site, but have had no luck so far.
Thank you for any information you can give me.
Edward
You’ll have to buy headsets and a decent microphone as well. Most professional voice over artists use condenser microphones.
Payment method will depend on the gig really. The most common payment method are bank deposit and paypal. If you are from a different country you may be paid by check.

Thanks for the review. I keep seeing VO Genesis in my many “income opportunity” emails, and I like getting the full picture of something even if my gut is screaming “yes-yes-yes” at me. You’re right about the scammy-sounding hype, but I had a feeling there was something beautiful under the mask of funky marketing, and you confirmed it for me.
And I like that there’s a way to get the markdown price.
I’ve been told I have a voice that’s good for radio and other voice communication things. So, apart from my respiratory sensitivity (which tends to make laryngitis somewhat of a common occurrence in the fall and spring due to allergies), I am definitely thinking I could make VO Genesis a solid income stream.

I’m quite surprised the 50% discount trick worked! Thanks a bunch. From the structure of the PDF this program seems pretty useful, shame that they use such shady marketing tactics
